Two ways to install
Online
Install from your browser
Open the installer in Chrome or Edge, pick a release from the list and connect the keyboard. The page downloads the file, checks it, and only then writes.
Nothing is written until the whole file has arrived and passed its checksum. Keep the keyboard plugged in and the computer awake until it restarts.
From a file
Install from your computer
Download the kit once: the installer page, the firmware and the showcase banks. Open the installer from your computer and choose the files from the same folder.
The steadier choice. Everything is on your computer before anything is written, so the connection can come and go and the write does not care.
The keyboard restarts into Oscuro and starts on the synth screen.
What you need
- Your M-Vave SMK-37 Elite or a compatible model (SMK-37 Pro, Donner Starrykey-37PLAY, EROK MKE-P37) and its USB cable.
- A computer with Chrome or Edge to run the installer, online or local.
- A steady connection and a computer that will not sleep while it writes.
What it leaves out
Oscuro Viroid has no Bluetooth and no step sequencer. That memory goes to the synth and the effects. Oscuro DAW, in development, is the build for those.
On your computer the keyboard appears as “SMK-37 Oscuro USB”. A DAW or script that remembers M-Vave's device name may need the keyboard selected again.
Showcase banks

A jar of sounds to start with: 192 patches in six banks, written for Viroid's engine and ready to send to the keyboard from the installer. Pads that breathe, basses that growl, leads that cut, and a few that simply misbehave.
A few names from the jar: Slow Tide, Glass Bell, Hyper Beam, Rise Up, Stone Sub, Marimba, Deep Hum, Brass Hit, OTT Sub, Sag Fall, Fold Lead, Morph Rise, 808 Boom, Reese Dark, Dub Wub, Hoover.
Eight families, four of each
Banks 1 to 4 hold pads, bells and keys, leads, sweeps and FX, basses, plucks, textures and drones, and stacks. The two bass banks split into Sub and 808, Reese, Neuro, Wobble, Psy and techno, Jungle and DnB, Acid and house and funk, Grit and trap.
.syx: Virus patches
Virus TI single-patch files, 32 to a bank, in the format a Virus uses. A patch's Virus effect settings set up the FX rack when it loads.
.oscbank: Oscuro banks
Oscuro's own bank format. Each patch brings a full FX rack, every byte of every effect, a wider modulation matrix, and some carry an arpeggiator pattern. They need Oscuro's FX rack.

Open the installer's Synth patches tab, pick a bank and send it. The first time, the installer asks you to back up and clear the keyboard's patch memory (the Patch memory tab), because patches are stored where M-Vave keeps its own data.
Written for Oscuro's Viroid engine; none is copied from a commercial or factory set. Free to use and share with Oscuro.
